MAY FARAJ: WOMAN OF SCIENCE AND HEART (May Faraj, UdeM and IRCM)

11 November 2019

General Public News

The clinical and basic research of May Faraj explores novel mechanisms leading to the development of cardiometabolic diseases in humans, such as type 2 diabetes and atherosclerosis. In particular, her team examines the role of atherogenic lipoproteins, chronic inflammation and dysfunctional white adipose tissue in this process.

Moreover, their clinical trials examine the role of various nutritional interventions, such as supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids, as therapeutic tools to reverse early cardiometabolic abnormalities. They hope that their translational studies would aid in the primary prevention of cardiometabolic diseases in humans, particularly among overweight and obese individuals.
